WP2188823 - Genuine OEM Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator

The WP2188823 Genuine OEM Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator is an original manufacturer replacement component designed for compatible refrigerators. Manufactured by Whirlpool, this evaporator coil acts as a heat exchanger, absorbing heat from inside the refrigerator to support proper cooling performance. It is used in select Whirlpool-family refrigerator applications, including certain Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Kenmore, Amana, and Jenn-Air models. <Cite refs={["turn549254search0","turn549254search7","turn549254search15"]}/>

Available through Appliance Kingdom, a Canadian appliance parts supplier based in Edmonton, Alberta, this genuine OEM refrigerator evaporator is intended for customers replacing a confirmed faulty evaporator. Appliance Kingdom serves customers across Canada with appliance replacement parts and nationwide shipping options.

Function & Importance of the Refrigerator Evaporator

The evaporator is a critical component of a refrigerator's sealed refrigeration system. Refrigerant flows through the evaporator coil, absorbing heat from the appliance's interior and helping maintain the temperatures required to keep food fresh and frozen goods properly stored.

A correctly specified OEM evaporator is important because its design, refrigerant passages, connections, and dimensions must match the refrigerator's refrigeration system. Using the correct component helps support proper heat transfer, reliable cooling, and the intended operation of the appliance.

When an evaporator becomes damaged, develops a refrigerant leak, or can no longer transfer heat effectively, the refrigerator may struggle to maintain its intended temperature. Because the evaporator forms part of the sealed refrigerant system, accurate diagnosis is essential before replacement.

Common Symptoms of a Faulty Refrigerator Evaporator

A damaged or defective evaporator may be associated with the following refrigerator problems:

• Refrigerator compartment is too warm.

• Freezer compartment is too warm.

• Refrigerator or freezer temperatures are inconsistent.

• Refrigerator runs for extended periods without reaching the set temperature.

• Excessive frost or ice develops on the evaporator coil.

• Cooling performance declines despite the refrigerator operating.

• The appliance struggles to maintain normal cooling.

These symptoms can also result from other components, including the compressor, evaporator fan, defrost system, temperature sensors, or other sealed-system problems. An appliance technician should determine the actual cause before replacing the evaporator. <Cite refs={["turn549254search12","turn549254search15"]}/>

Will Replacing WP2188823 Fix My Refrigerator?

Replacing WP2188823 can restore proper cooling if the evaporator is confirmed to be faulty and the replacement is compatible with the appliance.

However, warm temperatures, excessive running, and frost buildup do not automatically indicate a failed evaporator. A technician should inspect the refrigeration system and confirm whether the evaporator is leaking, damaged, or otherwise defective before ordering this part.

If the problem originates from another refrigerator component, replacing the evaporator alone may not resolve the issue.

Compatibility & Ordering Guidance

WP2188823 is a genuine OEM refrigerator evaporator for select compatible refrigerator models. Although it is associated with several Whirlpool-family brands, compatibility depends on the complete appliance model number and its specific configuration. <Cite refs={["turn549254search7","turn549254search15"]}/>

Before ordering:

• Locate the complete model number on your refrigerator's identification label.

• Check the model number against an authoritative parts compatibility listing.

• Confirm that WP2188823 is specified for your exact appliance.

• Contact Appliance Kingdom if you need assistance confirming compatibility.

Do not rely on the refrigerator's brand or appearance alone to determine whether this evaporator fits.

Installation Overview

Replacing a refrigerator evaporator is an advanced repair that requires specialised tools, refrigeration-system knowledge, and appropriate service procedures. The evaporator is part of the sealed refrigerant circuit, so this repair is not recommended as a routine DIY project.

Installation may involve recovering refrigerant, accessing the evaporator assembly, handling refrigerant-line connections, and evacuating and recharging the system according to the manufacturer's specifications.

A trained and appropriately licensed appliance refrigeration technician should perform the repair. Refrigerant handling must comply with applicable Canadian environmental and safety requirements.
