WP2188822 - Genuine OEM Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Assembly

WP2188822 – Genuine OEM Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Assembly

The WP2188822 Genuine OEM Whirlpool Refrigerator Evaporator Assembly is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement part designed for compatible refrigerators. The evaporator acts as a heat exchanger within the refrigerator’s sealed refrigerant system, absorbing heat to support proper cooling performance.

Available through Appliance Kingdom, a Canadian appliance parts supplier based in Edmonton, Alberta, this genuine Whirlpool replacement part serves homeowners, landlords, and professional appliance repair technicians across Canada. With Canada-wide shipping and support to help verify compatibility, Appliance Kingdom makes it easier to find the correct refrigerator replacement part.

If your refrigerator is experiencing cooling problems caused by a damaged or malfunctioning evaporator, replacing the evaporator assembly may restore proper cooling once the fault has been correctly diagnosed.

Function & Importance of the Refrigerator Evaporator

The evaporator is a critical component of a refrigerator’s sealed refrigeration system. Refrigerant absorbs heat as it passes through the evaporator, helping maintain the temperatures required to preserve food in the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

A properly functioning evaporator is essential for effective heat transfer, reliable cooling, and consistent appliance performance. Using the correct genuine OEM replacement helps ensure the component matches the intended appliance design and refrigerant-system requirements.

Because the evaporator is connected to the sealed refrigerant system, damage or failure can compromise cooling performance and require specialised repair procedures.

Common Symptoms of a Faulty Refrigerator Evaporator

A damaged or malfunctioning evaporator may contribute to the following symptoms:

• Refrigerator compartment is not cooling adequately.

• Freezer compartment is not maintaining the required temperature.

• Both compartments struggle to reach their normal temperatures.

• Cooling performance deteriorates despite the refrigerator running.

• Refrigerant leakage or sealed-system damage is suspected following a professional inspection.

These symptoms do not automatically confirm evaporator failure. Similar problems can result from a faulty compressor, refrigerant leak, restricted refrigerant flow, or another refrigeration-system fault.

Will Replacing WP2188822 Fix My Refrigerator?

Replacing WP2188822 can resolve cooling problems when the evaporator has been confirmed as the cause. However, the part should not be replaced solely because the refrigerator is warm or cooling poorly.

A qualified appliance technician should inspect the sealed refrigeration system, confirm the fault, and verify that WP2188822 is the correct replacement for the appliance model before installation.

Installation Overview

Replacing a refrigerator evaporator is an advanced repair that requires specialised refrigeration tools, technical knowledge, and experience working with sealed refrigerant systems.

Installation may involve recovering refrigerant, opening the sealed system, replacing the evaporator, making refrigerant-line connections, evacuating the system, and recharging it according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

This is not recommended as a routine DIY repair. A qualified and appropriately licensed refrigeration technician should perform the installation in accordance with applicable regulations and manufacturer service procedures.

Disconnect electrical power before servicing the appliance. Refrigerant handling must be performed using appropriate equipment and procedures.
