Function & Importance of the Evaporator Cover

The evaporator cover assembly is an important component of compatible Whirlpool refrigerators. It houses and protects the evaporator area while incorporating components that support airflow and temperature control.

The W10889841 assembly includes:

• Evaporator cover to enclose the evaporator compartment.

• Fan motor to circulate air through the refrigerator.

• Damper to help regulate airflow.

• Wire assembly and thermistor to support the assembly’s electrical connections and temperature sensing.

A damaged cover or a failure involving its integrated components can interfere with airflow and temperature regulation. Using the correct genuine OEM assembly helps ensure the intended fit, component arrangement, and operation for the compatible refrigerator.

Common Symptoms Indicating Replacement

A faulty or damaged evaporator cover assembly may contribute to the following refrigerator problems:

• Refrigerator compartment not cooling properly.

• Uneven temperatures or poor airflow inside the refrigerator.

• Excessive frost or ice buildup around the evaporator area.

• Evaporator fan not operating correctly.

• Refrigerator running continuously while struggling to maintain the desired temperature.

• Visible damage to the evaporator cover or its integrated components.

These symptoms do not always mean the entire assembly needs replacement. A failed fan motor, thermistor, wiring connection, or another refrigeration component can produce similar problems. Proper diagnosis is recommended before ordering.

Will Replacing W10889841 Fix My Refrigerator?

Replacing the W10889841 assembly can resolve cooling or airflow problems when the original evaporator cover assembly or one of its integrated components is defective. However, the result depends on the actual cause of the refrigerator problem.

Before replacing the assembly, verify that your refrigerator requires this specific part and that the fault has been correctly diagnosed. If the issue originates elsewhere in the refrigeration system, replacing the cover assembly alone may not resolve it.
